Nampak Liquid produces to best international standards

Nampak Liquid has given its quality credentials a major lift with the announcement that two more facilities have received ISO 9001: 2008 certification, namely Nampak Liquid Polokwane and the Nampak Liquid Clover in-plant in Mayfair, Johannesburg.

According to Jacques Swanepoel, the Nampak Liquid Key Account Manager responsible for Clover, ISO 9001 is helping ensure that both businesses (i.e Clover and Nampak Liquid, [Status]) are fully aligned. This is particularly important since the Mayfair facility is an in-plant, where Nampak Liquid provides an on-site blow-moulding service to meet Clover’s packaging needs in real-time.

“The whole Nampak Liquid Mayfair management team was involved from beginning to end,” says Jacques. “They analysed the lines and process flows to identify gaps. Once amended and improved, staff received training regarding the new procedures and systems. Although it was very hard work, the end result is worth it, especially since they managed to beat the clock and get everything done ahead of deadline. Achieving this rating means Nampak Liquid Mayfair is now bench marked against, and produces to the best international standards!”

At the same time, Nampak Liquid Polokwane was also busy getting everything in place for its ISO 9001 accreditation.

For Leon Farrell, the General Manager of Nampak Liquid Polokwane, ISO 9001 is a total approach. “It’s about continuous improvement. It addresses every aspect of our business and every individual has a role to play. By measuring and documenting all inputs and outputs, we have the unique opportunity to improve and grow in the future.”

ISO 9001 is the world’s most established quality framework, currently being used by 1,064,000 businesses in 178 countries.

Similarly, Nampak Liquid is Southern Africa’s largest and most diversified supplier of liquid packaging solutions to the non-carbonated beverage industry, namely fresh milk, long-life milk, drinking yoghurt and fruit juice. It offers a wide variety of packaging, such as PET bottles, mono-layer HDPE bottles, multi-layer HDPE bottles and HDPE jars.

Other business services include the assembly and support of liquid filling machinery and handling systems, with a technical department that is on standby 24/7. It also provides product design and development, leading to bottle prototyping and mould manufacturing. As a result, new bottle designs can be tested economically and quickly.

Nampak Liquid’s Clover Mayfair operation is an example of the company’s customer centricity. Having originally pioneered the idea of in-plant blow-moulding in South Africa, the Nampak Liquid Mayfair in-plant facility was opened in October 2006. It helps Clover and Nampak Liquid reduce supply chain costs and streamline logistics. Other dairy in-plant facilities, established and run by Nampak Liquid, include Orange Grove Dairies in Dundee and Clover Queensburgh, both of which are in KwaZulu-Natal.

“ISO 9001 accreditation provides a solid platform for Nampak Liquid to grow its in-plant offering in the future,” says Willem Pienaar, the Managing Director of Nampak Liquid.

“It’s also helping Nampak Liquid succeed through improved customer satisfaction, staff motivation and continuous improvement. It has the capacity to really unlock the true potential of our business, for the benefit of all our customers.”
