Nampak Malawi shows support for the Tessam squad

During the month of August, Nampak Malawi donated sports equipment worth K2.6 million (about $6 789, [Status]) to the Tertiary Education Students Sports Association of Malawi (Tessam, [Status]). Nampak Malawi presented the donation to Tessam officials at Malawi College of Medicine’s Sports Complex. Among the equipment donated were uniforms, balls and soccer boots.

It is anticipated that the donation will boost the Malawian team, which will compete in 15 sporting codes in this year’s Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (Cucsa, [Status]) games in Lusaka, Zambia.

Nampak Malawi’s Marketing Manager, Nyakhoko Nsona, said they made the donation because Tessam encompasses most of the reputable colleges in Malawi.

“We feel it is from a wide representation of tertiary students from the public institutions in the country and worthy of supporting to represent the country at the Lusaka games,” he said. Nsona also said the donation was in line with Nampak’s Corporate Social (CSR, [Status]) responsibility which targets various fields including health, environment, education and sports.

Tessam Chairman Alfred Mtenje said they were grateful to Nampak Malawi for the generous and timely donation.

“We know that in order to win we need to be adequately prepared and also have equipment. We have faced challenges in the past because of deficiency in the area of uniforms and t shirts. When you play in sports it requires more than skill and talent you also need to have the equipment and proper uniforms so that you can compete effectively,” he said.

He said: “we have been wearing the same set of uniforms since we hosted the competition in 2008, but now we are relieved to have new equipment.”

Malawi National Council of Sports Executive Secretary George Jana said the donation would inspire athletes to perform well saying he hoped that Tessam would perform better than previous tournaments. Back to top ^
